2020 Fletcher Barbaresco Roncagli

Roncaglie is a crucial part of the Barbaresco Recta Pete, alongside the earlier-ripening Starderi. In 2019, David received permission to bottle wine specifically from the Roncaglie vineyard.

This vineyard faces the southwest and gets a bit more shade, allowing the grapes to hang on the vines longer. The soil there has a higher iron content, resulting in wines with dark fruit flavours and a more robust tannin structure. Roncaglie is highly regarded in Barbaresco and is often considered something of a top-tier "Grand Cru" of the village.

Before releasing this, Dave opts to age this an additional 12 months in oak (on top of the requisite 12 months by law) and 3 months in bottle. This allows for a much more cohesive wine on release.
