2020 Gaja Dagromis Barolo

The Dagromis Barolo offers a broader view of Piedmont than many single-site expressions, blending fruit from two distinct communes - La Morra and Serralunga d’Alba. It’s a patchwork of old vines and varied soils, from deep, silty clay in Silio to the light sands of Broglio, stitched together with precision and patience.

Each site is vinified and aged separately - 12 months in mostly French oak - before being blended and returned to large-format Slavonian botti for a further 18 months. That layered process captures the generosity of La Morra and the structure of Serralunga in one cohesive, complete wine.

2020 was a warm, relatively even vintage in Barolo, and Dagromis reflects that - open and expressive, but with the bones to cellar. It’s a wine that honours Gaja’s careful evolution in Barolo: respectful of tradition, but not bound by it.

"Crushed cherry, rose petal and hot slate aromatics. Dark cherry fruit fills on entry with lift of red florals carried by fine acidity. It rolls into a deeper and savoury mid palate with dark spices, black stone and wood shavings all apparent. Tannins firmly grip but don't clip so the finish is very long, detailed and precise."
