2021 Disznoko Tokaji Late Harvest Furmint 500ml
Disznókő has been one of Tokaj’s leading estates since the early 1990s, when its historic vineyards were revived under French ownership. Today, winemaker László Mészáros crafts wines that balance Hungary’s long tradition of sweet winemaking with a fresher, more modern edge.
This late-harvest Furmint comes from botrytised grapes picked when they’d begun to shrivel and concentrate. The fruit was gently macerated, then fermented and aged for six months in used French oak, including barrels from Château Suduiraut in Sauternes. The short ageing keeps the wine bright, while the botrytis adds depth and richness.
It’s layered and lively – notes of honey, citrus peel and stone fruit sitting over a spine of zesty acidity that stops it ever feeling heavy. With around 100 g/L of residual sugar, it’s sweet but perfectly balanced, more about freshness than decadence. Chill it down and pour it with cheese, fruit tart, or just on its own.
