After years of negotiations (hence the name Ca’ Marcanda, meaning house of endless talks), the Gaja family secured their spot in Bibbona in 1996, planting Bordeaux and Rhône varieties into the dark, clay-rich soils just inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis blend of Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese speaks to that site - sunny but breezy, fertile but complex. The wine is fermented parcel by parcel with a bit of whole bunch for lift, then matured in older oak for 12 months before blending. It’s made to drink earlier than its siblings, Magari and Camarcanda, but still carries that signature Gaja finesse.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere’s generosity here, but it’s never showy.
