2022 Comando G La Brena 1er Cru Garnacha

La Brena sits just outside the village of Villanueva de Avila and is one of Comando G’s newer “lieu-dit” releases – part of their push to dig deeper into the individual voices of these remote mountain vineyards. The site is high, windy and stark, giving Garnacha that feels more alpine than Mediterranean.

The 2022 vintage was warm, but you’d hardly know it here. This is all lift and mineral drive, with that signature Comando G finesse showing through in the tannin - sandy, mouthcoating and fine as it gets. Fermented with whole bunches and raised in old wood, it’s all about transparency and letting the site speak.

There’s a quiet confidence to this wine. It might not shout, but the structure and detail are all there, and it’s likely to age gracefully for years to come. Just over 3,500 bottles were produced.
