2022 Domaine Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots

Tucked beneath the Narvaux slope, Germain’s 0.25-hectare slice of Poruzots comes with serious pedigree - it was inherited from Jean-François Germain’s father-in-law, the legendary François Jobard. That makes Antoine Jobard not just a neighbour here, but also family, and comparing their Poruzots side by side is a rare insight into two of Meursault’s finest winemaking minds working the same soil.

This 35-year-old plot sits in the upper part of Poruzot-Dessus, where the slope begins to tilt eastward. The 2022 vintage has delivered a wine that shows the site’s hallmark depth and savoury, earthy undertones, but this year there’s a lifted freshness that adds a whole new dimension. It’s less showy than Charmes, more grounded than Perrières - classic Meursault with a Jobard-esque thread of structure and minerality.

One for the purists, and one of the more quietly complex wines in the Germain cellar.
