2022 Kusuda Syrah

Hiro Kusuda’s Syrah is one of New Zealand’s great cool-climate reds - a study in balance, purity and patience. Every berry is picked by hand, sometimes one at a time, by Hiro’s dedicated harvest team in Martinborough. It’s meticulous work, but it’s what gives his wines their rare finesse.

The 2022 Syrah is refined and aromatic, showing black pepper, violets and smoked meats wrapped around a core of pure dark fruit. The texture is sleek and supple, framed by fine tannins and a subtle mineral edge that speaks to the gravelly soils of the region.

This isn’t a wine about weight or flash. It’s about precision - Syrah at its most elegant and articulate. Cellar it if you can resist; otherwise, savour it for what it is now: one of the most finely made reds in New Zealand.
