2022 Trinity Hill Hawkes Bay Syrah

Trinity Hill were one of the first to really back Syrah in Hawke’s Bay, and they’ve stuck with it for good reason. The variety just works here, giving wines that are fragrant, savoury and full of personality without ever feeling heavy.

The fruit comes mostly off the Gimblett Gravels – those stony soils that make the vines work a bit harder and in turn add depth and a nice savoury edge. 2022 was on the cooler side, which has kept the wine bright and fresh, while still showing plenty of dark fruit and spice.

Made with a bit of whole bunch and matured in older oak, this is Syrah that feels effortless – it’s got flavour and texture, but it’s not dressed up in too much oak or ripeness. Just clean, expressive and a pleasure to drink.
