2023 Nicolas Joly Savennieres Clos de la Bergerie Roche Aux Moines
The Joly family’s been tending these vines for decades — no shortcuts, just hands and horses on the steep schist slopes of Savennières. Nicolas Joly’s name has become synonymous with biodynamic farming, but at the core it’s always been about respecting the land and letting the wine speak for itself.
Clos de la Bergerie comes from a gentler east-facing slope, with deeper soils and vines around 40 years old. 2023 was no easy ride - early frost scares, humid summer, and a long, slow harvest that kept everyone on their toes. Virginie Joly and the team picked each bunch by hand, making sure only the best ended up in the barrels.
In the glass, it’s all about balance - ripe stone fruits, a bit of oxidative character, and that line of acidity that keeps you coming back for another sip. Nothing showy here - just a wine that feels honest, shaped by its place and the people who work it.
It's a great 'younger vine' expression of the kind of wines that have made Nicolas Joly's Chenin Blancs some of the most sought-after wines in France.
