For South Africans, Chenin Blanc is the country’s vinous heartbeat. For Margaret River winemaker Remi Guise, who grew up in South Africa's Cape Province, Chenin Blanc has been a life-long love afair.

When he launched his Tripe.Iscariot label in 2013, an exploration of Margaret River's best Chenin was always going to be at its core. What we see now in the 2023 Kroos is the culmination of that obsession.

This is not the soft, simple Chenin many of us grew up with. Kroos has tension, layers, and drive: think citrus peel and orchard fruits at the front, a savoury, nutty mid-palate from extended lees work, and a saline snap that keeps everything precise. It’s textural without heaviness, detailed without fuss. This is Chenin made with the same respect and intent Margaret River producers usually reserve for Chardonnay.

The accolades back it up - 98 points in the Halliday Companion, Best Other White Wine of the Year, and the Trophy for Best Single Varietal White at the 2024 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards - that's just about everything a Chenin Blanc can win in Australia...

Volumes, unfortunately, are tiny, but the significance of this wine is huge. This is Remi’s masterstroke – the South African soul of Chenin expressed through Margaret River fruit. A landmark wine, and quite possibly the best Chenin Blanc yet made in this country.
