2023 Whistler Atypical Shiraz

As you might expect, Whistler Atypical Shiraz is anything but your typical Barossan Shiraz. 

Estate fruit, planted in 1997, goes through partial whole-bunch fermentation in a range of different sizes of open-top fermenters. Natural fermentation happens, then the whole lot is pressed to old French oak to sleep for around a year. 

This Shiraz offers enticing savoury scents of dried herbs, olive, and dark fruits. Vibrant purple in colour, it showcases loads of blueberry and black olive character on the nose. The whole bunch component adds a dried herb note and freshness to the palate. With generous red and dark fruit flavours, it reflects the slightly cooler and longer growing season of 2023.

The result is a beautifully aromatic red - enticing with its savoury scents of dried herbs, olive and dark fruits. A great weeknight red that can be enjoyed on its own or with a meal.

"Good to see a more vibrant expression of Barossa Shiraz. Blue fruit, toasted hazelnut and chocolate, mint, dried herbs and spice. It’s medium-bodied, meaty and nutty, the acidity is bright but unobtrusive, silty fine-grained tannin, a little sappy too, with a gentle chicory bitterness, and the finish is all plum and dried herb, with good length and more of that pleasing sooty tannin. A praline richness to close. Tasty wine."
