2024 Dune Ain Salah Cinsault

Cinsault is fast becoming a bit of a secret weapon in McLaren Vale, and this release from Dune shows exactly why. Now in its fourth vintage, the Ain Salah is made in tiny quantities and sits comfortably in that blurry line between a heavy rosé and a very light red. It’s a style that prioritises drinkability above all else.

The fruit was picked early to keep the alcohol right down at a refreshing 11.4%. Because Cinsault naturally has large berries and lighter skins, it delivers flavour without the heavy tannin load. It is jubey and bright, packed with raspberry, watermelon and pomegranate, but there is a cool, savoury layer of blood orange, lavender and sweet herbs that keeps it interesting.

The palate is soft, rounded and mineral, making it the ultimate lunchtime wine. It has just enough weight to feel like a red, but the freshness of a white. Definitely one to throw in the fridge for 20 minutes before pouring.
