2024 Onannon Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay

Onannon has long provided one of Mornington Peninsula's best sub-$50 Chardonnays, and this 2024 release is further proof that great minds (and winemakers) think alike. 

Crafted by the talented winemaking trio of Will Byron, Kaspar Hermann, and Sam Middleton, this release combines fruit from two prized sites in Tuerong and Red Hill, making for a Chardonnay that’s both lively and intricately layered.

On the nose, it opens with aromas of ripe grapefruit, green apple, and a touch of salinity, with a light umami edge of white mushroom and miso. It’s a savoury, juicy Chardonnay that feels both complex and effortlessly refreshing. The texture is bright, with a lime-laced acidity that carries through a finely flinty finish.

"This is beautiful. The Onannon wines are in terrific shape. This is a waxy chardonnay, bursting with peach, pink grapefruit, melon and honey flavours, the palate flavoursome but the finish honed and long. Hay and popcorn notes hover, as does a sweet, wheaty character. The end result is one hell of a delicious wine to drink."
