2024 Poppelvej Only Shallow Skin-Contact Viognier

Uffe Deichmann’s Poppelvej wines are all about character and instinct, and this skin-contact Viognier is a perfect example. Sourced from the K1 vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, the fruit spent a hefty 99 days on skins - long enough to draw out texture, spice, and plenty of personality. It's not about following a formula but letting the fruit speak, and this wine has plenty to say.

It’s Viognier, but not as you know it. There’s stone fruit richness, yes, but it’s layered with ginger, spice, and a savoury edge that keeps things lively. The texture is where it really shines - built for sipping, savouring, and maybe thinking a little too. Bottled after just two months in neutral oak, it’s fresh, wild, and undeniably intriguing.

Like all Poppelvej wines, it’s low-intervention but thoughtfully made, with just enough sulphur to keep things tidy. The result? A wine that’s bright, textured, and a little bit rebellious.
