Pressing Matters has carved out a loyal following for its Rieslings, each labelled by sweetness level. The R139 sits at the lushest end of the range, a cane-cut style made from fruit grown on their estate vineyard in the Coal River Valley. The long, cool season here builds intense flavour and natural acidity – a perfect base for this kind of richly textured dessert wine.

It’s beautifully balanced: concentrated and sweet upfront, yet lifted by zesty acidity that keeps it clean and bright. Expect notes of baked apple, lime, citrus peel and a touch of honey, with a fine mineral line that runs right through. Despite its sweetness, it’s not heavy or cloying – more about purity and tension than sugar rush.

Chill it down and pour it with fruit tart, apple strudel or blue cheese, or just enjoy it on its own at the end of a meal. It’s indulgent but not over the top.
