2025 Dhillon Glenhope Accidental Red
Michael Dhillon is best known for the serious, world-class Pinot Noirs of Bindi, but this wine shows a different, more playful side of his winemaking. As the name suggests, this cuvée started life in 2022 as a happy accident born from surplus fruit. The result was so delicious that what began as a workaround has now become a deliberate and highly anticipated part of the lineup.
Sourced from the granite soils of the Glenhope vineyard in the Macedon Ranges, the 2025 release is a clever mash-up of Merlot berries and Shiraz juice, with a new 5% splash of Malbec added to the mix for a bit of extra depth. The winemaking is fast and loose in the best way: wild yeast fermentation followed by six months in barrel to settle things down.
The goal here is pure drinkability. It is a light, juicy red that drinks a lot like a crunchy Pinot Noir. You get bright notes of red cherry and summer berries, backed by a gentle spice and an earthy edge. The tannins are silky and fine, making it the perfect candidate for the fridge. Chill it down slightly and pour it generously; it is fun, affordable and smashable.
