2025 L.A.S. Vino Between the Capes Chenin Blanc

The 2025 'Between the Capes' Chenin Blanc is a bit of a wild child, sourced from a certified organic and biodynamic vineyard at the northern tip of the Cape. This site is far from your typical manicured estate - it’s untrellised, unpruned, and essentially left to its own devices, with livestock roaming free among the vines. Just 2.5km from the ocean, the fruit carries all that rugged, coastal energy and a fair bit of attitude.

In the cellar, Nic Peterkin keeps things just as raw and honest. This release is essentially a tale of two vessels: one amphora and one seasoned French barrel. Both underwent natural fermentation and at least partial malolactic fermentation, which - combined with fortnightly lees stirring - gives the wine a much softer, rounder profile than the more clinical Chenins you might be used to.

As Nic puts it, this wine is "a little less refined but easier to handle" than his top-tier CBDB. It’s got lower acidity and a smooth, "relaxed" texture that makes it incredibly approachable. You get plenty of flavour and a bit of a grippy, honest mouthfeel that reflects its wild upbringing. It’s a layered, soulful Chenin that doesn't overthink things - clean, textural, and perfectly suited for a long lunch.
