2022 Burn Cottage Sabines Selection Pinot Noir

Here we have a very rare wine, which happened to be The Real Review's 2026 Red Wine of the Year!

Burn Cottage's Lowburn vineyard in Central Otago produces some of New Zealand's most compelling Pinot Noir. The Sabine's Selection takes that a step further: two small parcels within that vineyard, where a seam of clay runs through the base of the block and gives the fruit an incredibly distinct character and depth.

The 2022 season was ideal, a balance of warmth and cool nights that brought a slow, steady ripening, and what these two parcels showed that year was compelling enough to bottle separately rather than fold into the estate wine.

This is Pinot at its most refined and contemplative: silky, precise, and built around structure and persistence rather than weight or richness. There's fragrance here, and layered complexity, and a finish that keeps going long after you've put the glass down. It will develop beautifully over the coming decade.
