2022 Chalmers Bush Vine Inzolia

The Chalmers 'Bush Vine' project is quite simply one of the most groundbreaking and innovative initiatives in Australian wine, from a family that has done so much to safeguard our country's winemaking future.

This unique vineyard was established organically in 2017, deliberately in the extremely hot and sometimes brutal climate of the Murray Darling, to test the limits of ‘dry growing’ in these sorts of conditions. Each vine is grown as a little tree/bush to provide its own shade and protection from the harsh sun, and spaced 2.5 metres apart enabling them to naturally capture the water they need to thrive.

Hailing from the west of Sicily, Inzolia is considered one of the most important ancient Mediterranean (warm climate) white grape varieties and was a natural and appropriate choice for our bush vine planting. It's wild fermented, unfined, unfiltered, and really one of the most interesting textural white wines on the market, with a myriad of stone fruits, florals and grilled nuts giving way to a thirst-quenching, mineral finish.
