2022 Chalmers Greco
The Chalmers crew were the first to bring Greco di Tufo into the country, and based on this bottling, it was a very good call. Grown in the red Cambrian soils of Heathcote, this southern Italian white has found a home where its natural acidity can ride out the summer heat with ease.
The cooler 2022 season delivered a longer ripening window, and it shows. This Greco is layered and textural, but still tightly coiled and fresh. Expect notes of yellow apple, guava, a touch of cardamom and something faintly smoky and herbal, like red gum leaf. It’s got flavour, weight and interest, but keeps its shape thanks to that classic Greco acid spine and a chalky, savoury finish.
A great food wine - think roast chook, grilled pork, or salty cheeses - and a brilliant example of what Italy’s white grapes can do on Australian soil when they’re in the right hands.
