2022 Savage White

Duncan Savage has been working with Sauvignon Blanc for over two decades, and it shows - not in a loud, showy way, but in the ease and clarity of a wine that knows exactly what it wants to be. The 2022 White strips things back to the bones: Sauvignon Blanc leading the charge, with a good splash of Semillon (25%) for texture and depth.

The fruit comes from cool, wind-beaten sites across Stellenbosch, the Overberg and Villiersdorp. It’s coastal, but not in a beachy, tropical way - more like salt air, waxy citrus and a bit of that wild, herbal edge you get from proper old vines. Fermented in old wood, a touch of new, no rush, no fuss.

It’s bright but grounded, with a gentle grip and enough energy to keep you coming back for another sip. Duncan keeps things simple on purpose - to let the vineyards do the talking. And they’ve got plenty to say.
