2023 Brothers Cellar Saperavi

Brothers Cellar is one of the small Georgian producers helping show just how exciting Saperavi can be. The grape has been grown in Kakheti for centuries, and here it’s made with a balance of tradition and a slightly more modern touch. The team stick to low intervention in the cellar, letting the grape’s intensity and the region’s character do the heavy lifting.

The 2023 vintage has turned out deep, savoury and full of drive. Saperavi is known for its naturally dark pigment and firm structure, and here it’s channelled into a wine that’s bold but not clunky. Expect layers of dark fruit and spice, with a freshness that makes it more drinkable than you might expect given the colour in the glass. Long maceration adds texture and grip, while the acidity keeps everything bright and focused.

It’s a red with presence, but also with a lot of authenticity – the kind of wine that feels both old-school Georgian and surprisingly versatile at the table.
