2023 Fromm Pinot Noir

Fromm has been making Pinot in Marlborough since the early 90s, long before the region was known for much beyond Sauvignon Blanc. Their style has always been about restraint – letting the vineyard sites speak, keeping alcohols modest, and working gently in the winery.

The 2023 Pinot pulls together fruit from several organically farmed blocks, each bringing its own layer to the blend. Fermentation was wild, with a mix of whole berries and whole bunches, then the wine spent time in mostly older French oak. The aim is texture and complexity without drowning the fruit in wood.

It’s got that mix of bright red fruit and savoury, herbal notes that Marlborough Pinot does so well, sitting in a medium-bodied frame with fine tannins. Approachable now, but it’s got the balance to develop nicely over the next few years.
