2023 Scotchmans Hill Chardonnay

Scotchmans Hill has been a Geelong benchmark for decades, and their Estate Chardonnay is always a great barometer of the region and the year. The 2023 vintage was mild and steady, delivering fruit with real balance – ripe enough for generosity, but with plenty of drive and freshness.

Fruit was sourced from estate vineyards on the Bellarine Peninsula, hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak. A mix of new and seasoned barrels adds layers without drowning the fruit, while regular lees stirring brings texture and depth.

In the glass, it sits right in the modern Australian Chardonnay sweet spot – crisp and energetic, with citrus and stone fruit at its core, framed by subtle oak spice and a savoury edge. It’s a Chardonnay that works equally well with food or just on its own, and one that will hold up nicely in the cellar for a few years.
