2023 Traviarti Chardonnay

Of course, no Beechworth producer's lineup would be complete without a Chardonnay and Simon's is a ripper.

It's a full-flavoured, beautifully balanced Chardonnay grown at 500m above sea level. The coolness of the vineyard allows great flavour development whilst retaining crisp acidity.

It has typical Beechworth power with a little more prettiness than you might expect - it's just lovely to drink.

"We know Traviarti as a nebbiolo producer, for sure. I’m also aware that I liked Traviarti’s 2022 Chardonnay quite a lot too, so (very) good chardonnay should not be a surprise. But even so, hang on. This release floored me. It is frankly, absolutely, fundamentally a seriously good chardonnay. It has great line, great texture and most importantly, great personality. It’s taste hay-like, and of wet riverstones, and of lemon curd, and of understated grilled peach. It shows sprays of herbs, flashes of fennel and slips of green olive oil-on-butter. It has plenty going on throughout and yet it’s all about the finish, which is long. Second crop. We have a wine on our hands here but we also have a vineyard.
