2025 Pooley Chardonnay

Chardonnay has become a real cornerstone for the Pooley family, and the 2025 release shows exactly why their reputation in the Coal River Valley is so formidable. This wine is all about finding that sweet spot between generous fruit and a lean, precise acid profile.  

The winemaking here is smart and modern. They use a mix of French oak and a concrete sphere for fermentation, which builds a unique layer of texture and elegance without smothering the fruit in oak. After six months on full lees, the wine emerges with a beautifully smooth, creamy mouthfeel and a subtle nutty edge. 

It’s packed with bright apple, lemon curd, and white flowers. There’s a lovely weight of orchard fruit on the palate, but it’s the fresh acidity and flinty minerality that really drive the finish. It’s a classy, polished Chardonnay that is drinking well straight off the bat but clearly has the bones to age gracefully if you can keep your hands off it.
