2025 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Tumbarumba Pinot Noir
Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown's exploration of the High Country has taken them across the NSW border this time, landing them right in the sweet spot of Tumbarumba. They've sourced this fruit from the Johansen vineyard, which sits over 700 metres up on ancient, weathered feldspar soils. It’s a site that perfectly aligns with their love for delicate, precise wines.
In the glass, it's completely unforced and channels pure, alpine Pinot character. Instead of the usual heavy-handed oak or dark, jammy fruit, they’ve run with a 100% whole-berry ferment and just a quarter new French wood. This gentle approach lets the vineyard do the talking, giving you a bright, translucent red full of crunchy pomegranate and wild red currants.
The shape across the palate is lean and incredibly refreshing. That cool mountain air keeps the acidity brisk, but there's a lovely hint of stalky, red plum skin chewiness to flesh out the back end and give it some structural grip.
Very Tumbarumba, very Schmolzer & Brown and very very delicious!
