The Unico Zelo owner/winemaking dynamic duo of Brendan and Laura Carter are hugely passionate about Fiano, and they wholeheartedly believe in this variety's suitability to Australia's climate and culture.

So do we, it's a winner.

This comes from the ancient sandy limestone soils on the iconic Ricca Terra Farms vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. Like in previous years it's a wonderfully textural wine, with the detail and balancew improving each and every year.

2023 Unico Zelo Esoterico

Esoterico has been a cult hit since the early days of Unico Zelo, and the 2023 release shows just how far Brendan and Laura Carter have taken the style. It’s not white, not red – call it orange, amber, or just plain addictive – but whatever label you give it, this is one of the most drinkable skin-contact wines in the country.

Built from a head-turning mix of Zibibbo, Gewürztraminer, Moscato Giallo, Greco and a touch of Fiano, it’s a riot of aromatics – think citrus peel, ginger, mandarin oil and heady florals – with a fine line of tannin giving shape to all that energy. Cloudy, amber in colour and unapologetically wild, but crucially: it’s balanced, refreshing and incredibly easy to pour another glass.

No additions (beyond a touch of sulphur at bottling), no fining, no filtration – just fruit, skins and time doing their thing. That raw honesty is why Esoterico has earned its cult status, and why every new release disappears so quickly.

2024 Unico Zelo Origami Rose

Simply put, the Unico Zelo wines are absurdly drinkable, great-value wines, crafted seemingly with no preconceptions or restrictions. They are iconoclasts who have a blast.

This Rose is a blend of Riverland Grenache, Sangiovese & Dolcetto.

Flavoursome and succulent, with a touch of colour, this is a crunchy dry style with lots of floral aromatics, some strawberry/ raspberry fruit and a vivid acid-driven finish.

2025 Unico Zelo Fresh AF

Few wine ventures are as committed to the idea of sustainability as Brendan and Laura from Unico Zelo. Their championing of Italian varieties, particularly Nero d'Avola and Fiano, comes from their belief in their suitability to Australia.

Nero is a particularly hardy grape and it thrives in warm, dry climates. So, here they take the fruit from one of the warmest and driest wine regions on the planet, and make a glugable, slurpable red which is ideal quaffing for just about any night of the week.

A dash of old vine Zibbibo (white wine) adds lift and a super zippy crunch of acidity. It's great drinking at a great price and a little left-of-center. More inventive stuff from this energetic winemaking couple.

The fruit comes primarily from the Polish Hill River sub-region, with the addition of some stellar Langhorne Creek Dolcetto.
