2025 Mulline Pinot Gris

Pinot Gris (or Grigio) has come a long way in Australia. From humble beginnings in southern Victoria, it was the first 'alternative' variety to officially graduate the AAVWS and be seen as a mainstream variety.

It's easy to see why when you look at the Mulline Pinot Gris. This is definitely more Gris than Grigio, with lifted florals, ripe stone fruits and a bit of spice coming through.

The wine also saw a small amount of skin contact to provide colour and texture, which rounds out the rich palate and makes this incredibly more-ish.

2025 Sherrah Fiano

Alex Sherrah is one of the the kings of "bang for buck" in McLaren Vale, and his Fiano is the perfect evidence. It’s a bit of a rarity in the region - one of the few whites that consistently hovers around the 95-point mark while staying under $35 a bottle.

The 2025 release is all about that smart blending of two distinct sites. You’ve got fruit from the coastal Tatachilla sands bringing a punchy sea-spray crunch, while the older limestone soils of Seaview add a bit of internal muscle and depth.

Half the fruit goes into tank for freshness, the other half into old oak for a bit of leesy "chew". It’s lifted and zesty with lemon peel, white flowers, and a distinct salty edge. It moves with great drive and has a moreish, textured finish that punches way above its price tag. If you’re looking for a great all-rounder white that doesn't overthink it, this is a total winner.

2025 CRFT The Arranmore Gruner Veltliner

CRFT has become a specialist in Gruner Veltliner, but the Arranmore release is their most personal. It’s sourced from just eight rows of estate-grown vines at their Carey Gully home - a cold, breezy, east-facing slope that sits at a lofty 550 meters. It’s a site Candice and Frewin farm organically, and the relentlessly cool conditions are exactly what this variety needs to find its energy.

The 2025 was wild-fermented on full solids in seasoned French barriques, followed by full malolactic fermentation and regular lees stirring. It’s a process designed to build texture and weight while allowing the vineyard's shale and ironstone bedrock to guide the wine's shape.

It leads with citrus blossom and lime leaf, but the real interest lies in the true Gruner secondary notes: white pepper, fennel seed, and a slate-like minerality. It’s a sophisticated, textural white that proves the Adelaide Hills is a legit home for this variety.

2024 Gilbert Sauvignon Blanc

Will Gilbert is helping to change how we view New South Wales Sauvignon Blanc. Operating out of the high-altitude slopes of Orange, he has pushed past the standard simple tropical juice box styles to deliver a sophisticated, grown-up white that focuses entirely on real structural detail.

The fruit comes from seriously high vineyards, sitting nearly a thousand metres up where the cool air keeps things fresh. He gives the juice some proper time on full lees in a mix of old large-format foudres and concrete tanks. This old-school handling fills out the wine, adding more volume and weight.

Instead of simple grassiness, you've got fleshy yellow orchard fruits, bitter citrus oil, and a light hazelnut undertone. It carries a beautiful waxy texture that gets balanced perfectly by a clean, briny mineral kick.

One of the better quality NSW Sauvs on the market and really smart value.

2025 Usher Tinkler Paperwasp Vineyard Chardonnay

Great ideas often start over a shared bottle of wine, and the 'Paperwasp' is proof of that. Usher Tinkler wanted to create a barrel-fermented Hunter Chardonnay that was immediately accessible in both style and price, and he has absolutely nailed it once again for the 2025 release.

The wine takes its name from the 1.6-hectare vineyard planted in 1985, where backpackers often perform "The Dance of the Paper Wasp" to avoid the nests hidden in the canopy during harvest. Now 40 years old, these vines on sandy loam soil produce fruit with serious concentration.

It is 100% barrel fermented in a mix of new and old French oak, with monthly lees stirring and partial malolactic fermentation. This gives the wine a rich, creamy texture that fills the mouth without weighing it down. It is full-bodied and generous but retains that vital freshness you need. A wonderfully versatile Chardonnay that delivers terrific bang for your buck.
